Egypt halts chemical loading at El Dekheila Port over emissions

Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, has ordered immediate action against a vessel at El Dekheila Port in Alexandria following citizen complaints regarding pungent gaseous odors.

An environmental committee conducted measurements and air quality scans, determining that the odors were caused by high concentrations of volatile organic compounds released during the ship's loading of chemical materials. The emissions had spread into nearby residential areas.

As a result, the committee compelled the vessel to halt all loading operations, which successfully ended the emission of the odors. Authorities have also initiated precautionary measures to detain the ship, which was preparing to depart, while legal proceedings are conducted.
