Egypt Health Minister reviews investment plans and World Bank partnership

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held meetings to discuss the investment plan for Specialized Medical Centers and strengthen cooperation with the World Bank to develop the national health system.

Regarding the investment plan for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, the Ministry is focusing on expanding bone marrow transplantation services to eliminate waiting lists. The five-year plan (2025–2030) aims to increase capacity through various projects, including three new bone marrow units and 17 other projects across 13 governorates. Additionally, the Ministry is pursuing digital transformation in hospitals and improving medical staff housing.

In discussions with a World Bank delegation, the Ministry focused on supporting the Universal Health Insurance system, improving hospital infrastructure, and encouraging local manufacturing of medicines and medical supplies. The partnership also aims to integrate university hospitals into the national system and explore investment models through private sector partnerships. The parties discussed learning from Indonesia’s experience in universal health coverage to enhance Egyptian healthcare management and quality standards.
