Cairo 2026 African University Games officially commence in Egypt
The 12th African University Games, titled ‘Cairo 2026’, officially commenced at the Cairo International Stadium cycling arena. The opening ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, alongside various ministers and leaders from African academic and sporting institutions.
In support of the event's scientific component, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is hosting the website for the African University Sports Scientific Conference. This digital platform, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will manage the conference scheduled for September 10–12, 2026, at the British University in Egypt. The platform facilitates research submissions, peer reviews, registration, and live streaming via Zoom, supporting participants from across the Arab and African regions.
Approximately 150 international students participated in the opening festivities, highlighting the cultural diversity within Egyptian universities. Officials noted that the games serve as a platform to strengthen ties between African youth and promote Egypt as a destination for higher education through the ‘Study in Egypt’ initiative.
