Egypt hosts 25th Egyptian Collegiate Programming Contest in Alexandria

The 25th edition of the Egyptian Collegiate Programming Contest (ECPC) concluded at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria. The silver jubilee event saw the participation of approximately 8,000 students representing 86 universities and institutes.

During the ceremony, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi emphasized that the competition serves as a platform to discover talent and build the capabilities of programmers, helping solidify Egypt's position in the global technology landscape. He noted that the contest tests critical skills including teamwork, decision-making under pressure, and algorithmic problem-solving.

Minister Hindi also highlighted Egypt's growing role in the global outsourcing and digital services industry. He stated that the Ministry's future strategy aims to elevate Egypt's position in the global value chain, particularly regarding artificial intelligence. He specifically noted the development of ‘Karnak’, a national large language model (LLM) for Arabic, which has ranked highly on international evaluation platforms in the 30 and 40 billion parameter categories.
