Egypt hosts African Tax Administration Forum annual meetings
Cairo is hosting the annual meetings of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) from November 1 to 5. The event, organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Tax Authority, operates under the theme “The Importance of Revenue: Africa’s Path to Financing its Development.”
The meetings aim to address tax challenges facing African nations and explore ways to enhance domestic resource mobilization to fund development priorities. Key discussion topics include cross-border taxation, information exchange, indirect taxes, and tax administration management.
The program includes technical and governance meetings, including sessions for the African Women in Tax Network (AWITN) and meetings with donor countries. Experts note that the forum provides a platform for African nations to transition from international obligations to practical implementation mechanisms that increase public revenue without placing undue burdens on economic activities. Discussions will also focus on digital economy taxation and the importance of expanding the tax base and integrating the informal economy.
