Egypt hosts regional Arab workshop on International Humanitarian Law

Egypt's Minister of Justice, Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif, inaugurated a regional Arab workshop in Cairo on October 3, 2026, focused on the national implementation of International Humanitarian Law. The two-day event is organized by Egypt's National Committee for International Humanitarian Law in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Cairo.

The workshop brings together experts and representatives from national committees in Jordan, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. The discussions aim to facilitate the exchange of expertise, study shared experiences, and strengthen regional cooperation to protect human rights and dignity amidst current regional humanitarian and legal challenges.

During the opening session, which included ICRC Deputy Head of Mission Guy Bruyninx, Minister El-Sherif emphasized Egypt's commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and the importance of respecting legal frameworks to ensure security and stability. He also noted the role of the National Committee in coordinating legislative proposals and training personnel to promote humanitarian law.
