Egypt House of Representatives to hold emergency session on criminal law delay

The Egyptian House of Representatives is scheduled to hold an emergency session on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, following a presidential decree. The primary objective of this session is to discuss a proposal to delay the implementation of the new criminal procedure law for one year.

The Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee is currently holding urgent meetings to prepare a report regarding this delay. The postponement is being considered due to incomplete technological preparations required for the law, which was originally slated to take effect on October 1.

The emergency session occurs just before the start of the regular annual legislative session. Under constitutional and internal regulations, such sessions can be convened to address urgent matters, including ministerial changes, declarations of war or emergency, or issues of supreme national interest.
