Egypt Information Technology Crimes Law outlines penalties

The Information Technology Crimes Law outlines specific penalties and exemptions for various digital offenses. Penalties for unauthorized access to bank card data or electronic payment tools range from three months of imprisonment and fines of 30,000 to 50,000 EGP, to more severe sentences if the intent is to seize funds or services.

Stricter punishments apply to crimes involving the forgery of websites, private accounts, or email addresses, as well as violations of privacy. This includes sending mass unsolicited emails or publishing personal information and images without consent. Furthermore, using software to process personal data in a way that links it to content contrary to public morals or harms a person's reputation can result in two to five years of imprisonment and fines up to 300,000 EGP.

The law also provides for mandatory or discretionary exemptions from these penalties, such as when a perpetrator or accomplice reports the crime to judicial or public authorities before the commencement of legal proceedings.
