Egypt launches mining capacity program with Australia's Murdoch University

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has launched a specialized capacity-building program for the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) in collaboration with Murdoch University in Western Australia.

On the sidelines of the ‘Africa Down Under’ mining and energy conference, the program's first cohort consists of 10 EMRA staff members. The training focuses on international best practices in strategic regulation, governance, inspection, and critical minerals. This initiative follows a memorandum of understanding between the two parties aimed at developing human resources within the mining sector.

Minister Badawi emphasized that human capital is a cornerstone for the success of Egypt's mining sector transformation. He noted that while legislative reforms are underway, investing in qualified personnel is essential to maximize the value of Egypt's diverse mineral wealth, which includes gold, phosphate, copper, iron ore, and critical industrial minerals. The goal is to create a more efficient sector capable of attracting international investment.
