Egypt Launches New Bread Subsidy System with Direct Discount Scheme
Starting Saturday 1 August 2026, Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will officially launch a new bread subsidy system that incorporates a direct‑discount mechanism across all governorates. The rollout follows technical testing and a brief postponement from July to ensure bakeries, mills and the electronic platform are fully prepared.
The reform is intended to modernise the subsidy programme, improve efficiency, governance and transparency, and guarantee that support reaches eligible citizens. The Ministry stressed that the change will not affect the amount of subsidy or the number of loaves allocated to each cardholder, and that technical teams will monitor the first days of operation to address any issues promptly.
