Egypt: Legal complaint filed against TikToker Mohamed Shaker
A lawyer has filed an official complaint with the Egyptian Public Prosecutor against content creator Mohamed Shaker, known as “Shaker Mahzoor Delwaqti,” requesting an investigation into his financial sources. The complaint follows Shaker’s recent return to TikTok live streaming after serving a one-year prison sentence for broadcasting indecent content and misuse of social media.
The legal action seeks to examine whether the massive influx of digital gifts received during his recent broadcasts, estimated to be worth millions of Egyptian pounds, involves money laundering or tax evasion. The complainant has requested that regulatory authorities track the sources of these funds, audit Shaker’s bank accounts and electronic wallets, and verify if his earnings align with his tax declarations.
Furthermore, the complaint calls for official communication with TikTok to obtain transaction records and net profit data. It also urges the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Combat Unit to investigate the legitimacy of these financial flows. Beyond the financial allegations, the filing expresses concern over the social impact of promoting “get-rich-quick” models to youth, suggesting that media regulators should review platform content.
