Egypt media regulator bans Reham Said and Yasmine El Khatib
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt has banned media personalities Reham Said and Yasmine El Khatib from appearing on television for two months. The decision follows mutual accusations and disputes exchanged between the two presenters on social media platforms.
According to a statement from the Council, the ruling was based on recommendations from the complaints committee. The Council noted that professional responsibility for media figures extends to their social media activity, as these platforms constitute part of the public sphere and must adhere to professional standards and societal values. The ban remains in effect pending the conclusion of investigations into the mutual complaints.
This decision follows previous disciplinary actions against both individuals. In October 2024, Reham Said’s program ‘Sabaya’ was suspended and her channel fined for content violating privacy and societal norms. Similarly, Yasmine El Khatib previously faced a six-month suspension of her program ‘Tea with Jasmine’ and a fine for violations related to media codes and ethical standards.
