Egypt Mining Forum 2026 focuses on strategic partnerships and exploration
The Egypt Mining Forum 2026, held in Cairo, has brought together international mining leaders, government officials, and research institutions to discuss the future of the sector. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with AngloGold Ashanti CEO Alberto Calderon to propose a transition from a single-mine partnership at Sukari to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This expanded cooperation aims to cover exploration, technology transfer, and local supply chain development, with the company expressing intent to increase investment across several promising sites.
Lotus Gold Corporation, a platinum sponsor of the forum, highlighted its ongoing exploration activities in the Eastern Desert within the Arabian-Nubian Shield, utilizing modern international techniques to develop mineral resources. Additionally, the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) showcased its technological capabilities for deep-sea mineral and petroleum exploration, emphasizing the economic potential of marine resources at depths of up to 1,500 meters.
On the diplomatic front, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, participated in the forum to promote the DRC’s mining potential. He held discussions with Egyptian and Saudi Arabian officials regarding bilateral cooperation in geological data, applied research, and investment stability.
