Egypt Minister of State for Information highlights role of digital journalism

Egypt’s Minister of State for Information, Diaa Rashwan, has designated digital journalism and news websites as essential components of the national media system. During a meeting with editors-in-chief of licensed news sites, Rashwan emphasized the critical role these platforms play in disseminating news and multimedia to citizens.

Rashwan announced that the first Egyptian Media Conference, directed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, is scheduled for this December. The conference aims to discuss ways to develop the Egyptian media landscape and foster a dialogue that includes diverse viewpoints. The Minister outlined the Ministry’s role in coordinating between various media entities and state agencies to enhance public awareness and restore the media's domestic and international standing.

To support this development, the Ministry plans to facilitate the rapid and accurate flow of information from government ministries to the media. Rashwan urged digital news operators to adhere to professional journalistic standards, cautioning against prioritizing speed over the accuracy and reliability of information. Additionally, participating editors-in-chief reached a consensus to prohibit the filming of funerals and mourning ceremonies.
