Egypt Ministry of Health completes 3.3 million surgeries via waiting list initiative

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has announced the completion of 3,342,772 surgical procedures through a presidential initiative aimed at eliminating surgical waiting lists. Launched in July 2018, the program focuses on preventing the accumulation of new queues for critical surgical interventions.

According to Ministry spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the initiative’s hotline has received 418,155 calls since its inception. Between July 1, 2023, and August 8, 2026, approximately 391,018 cases were monitored. The initiative covers various specialties, including cardiology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, oncology, neurosurgery, kidney and liver transplants, and cochlear implants.

All services provided under this initiative are entirely free of charge to ensure that urgent and critical surgeries are accessible to those in need without financial burden. To support the program, the Ministry is working to improve hospital efficiency through medical staff training, modernizing equipment, and developing an automated electronic system to manage patient data and hospital capacity.
