Egypt Ministry of Health manages 200,000 intensive care cases

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population reported that its national intensive care and incubator project accommodated over 200,000 cases during the first half of the year. This included 168,566 intensive care cases and 38,245 incubator cases. The ministry’s hotline (137) handled over 922,000 incoming calls to guide patients toward appropriate emergency services.

Under the presidential initiative ‘Every Second is Life,’ medical teams evaluated 20,460 cases and provided specialized services to 7,125 patients, including over 5,000 cardiac catheterizations and the installation of 2,706 stents. To improve efficiency, the ministry is implementing unified protocols for patient admission and discharge, with 6th of October General Hospital serving as the initial model for a comprehensive development phase.

Ministry spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that the state is working to integrate healthcare services through the expansion of the Universal Health Insurance system. He noted that the state covers insurance costs for unable citizens and is working to involve the private sector and university hospitals to ensure timely, high-quality care. Abdel Ghaffar also distinguished between mere digitization and true digital transformation, stating that the latter involves changing the entire culture and operational methods of the health system.
