Egypt MP questions government over pension and property compensation delays

Egyptian Member of Parliament and Deputy Chair of the Manpower Committee, Ehab Mansour, has submitted parliamentary inquiries to the Prime Minister and relevant ministers regarding significant delays in financial payments to citizens.

One inquiry addresses the prolonged delay in distributing pensions and financial entitlements, including survivor and disability benefits. Mansour noted that thousands of citizens have faced months of financial hardship due to these delays. He also highlighted issues with insufficient ATM access and disbursement outlets, which cause overcrowding and hardship for the elderly and disabled.

A second inquiry concerns unpaid compensation for property owners whose buildings were demolished for the Grand Egyptian Museum project in Giza. Despite expropriation orders dating back to 2021, Mansour stated that only 5 million EGP has been paid out of an estimated 1.34 billion EGP owed. He argued that these delays violate constitutional protections regarding fair and timely compensation for public utility projects.
