Egypt offers additional scholarships in science and medicine to Indonesia
During a bilateral meeting in Jakarta on October 11, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed expanding educational cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt. The Egyptian government has offered additional scholarships for Indonesian students, specifically targeting the fields of medicine, engineering, and science.
While academic ties have historically centered on students at Al-Azhar University, the new proposal aims to broaden collaboration through student exchanges, university partnerships, and joint scientific research. Additionally, Indonesian language and literature are now being taught at Al-Azhar. The two nations are also exploring the possibility of Egyptian educational institutions establishing a presence in Indonesia and the deployment of Egyptian educators to support Indonesian academic development.
