Egypt officials inspect tourism and archaeological sites in Matrouh

Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, and the Governor of Matrouh, Mohamed El-Zemlot, conducted an extensive inspection tour of archaeological sites and tourism development projects in the Matrouh Governorate.

During the tour, the Minister ordered a comprehensive study to develop the Matrouh Antiquities Museum and enhance its exhibition scenarios. The museum houses approximately 1,260 artifacts spanning Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic history. Officials also visited the Rommel Cave Museum, which contains military documents and personal items related to Erwin Rommel and the battles of El Alamein during World War II.

The inspection included modern infrastructure and natural landmarks, such as Al-Gharam Beach and the newly developed Rommel Bridge. The bridge features pedestrian glass walkways, lighting, and accessibility ramps for people with disabilities. Additionally, officials discussed plans to transform Rommel Island into an integrated tourist destination and reviewed the status of Agiba Plateau to maximize the region's economic and tourism potential.
