Egypt opens market to Peruvian blueberry exports

Egypt has officially opened its market to fresh Peruvian blueberries, marking the 76th international destination for the fruit. The agreement follows over a year of technical negotiations between Egypt’s Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ) and Peru’s National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA), alongside the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

This expansion provides Peru with access to a North African market of over 120 million potential consumers. The move is seen as a strategic effort to diversify export destinations and reduce reliance on major markets like the United States, which currently accounts for more than half of Peru’s blueberry exports.

Peruvian blueberry production is concentrated in regions such as La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Ica. The sector has seen significant growth, with 2025 exports reaching approximately US$2.457 billion.
