Egypt Opens Spectram Diagnostic Test Plant in Ismailia to Boost Local Medical Manufacturing

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid announced the inauguration of the Spectram diagnostic test plant in the Ismailia free zone, marking the first facility of its kind in Egypt and the Arab world. The project, funded with an investment of $16.55 million, will produce rapid medical diagnostic kits, create 38 jobs and operate under a licence valid until 2050.

The plant is presented as a flagship example of Egypt’s drive to localise advanced medical industries, reduce reliance on imports, and expand export capacity to regional and global markets. Farid highlighted the broader strategy to build a sustainable, export‑oriented industrial base, with forthcoming announcements on foreign direct investment priorities. Officials from the health, industry and drug‑regulation ministries attended the opening, underscoring governmental support for the sector’s growth.
