Egypt outlines process to convert code-based electricity meters to legal status
The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has clarified the procedures for converting temporary code-based electricity meters into legal meters. This process is contingent upon the completion of building violation reconciliation procedures and obtaining necessary legal approvals.
To initiate the conversion, citizens must visit their local electricity distribution company and submit several required documents, including: the reconciliation document issued according to building violation regulations, a copy of the national ID, a copy of the property ownership contract, and the existing code-based meter installation contract.
The Ministry emphasized that the application of electricity consumption tiers to certain code-based meters does not constitute an automatic conversion to a legal status. There is a distinct difference between converting an existing code-based meter and installing a new legal meter for a unit that has already obtained all necessary approvals.
