Egypt paddy rice prices drop by 1,000 EGP per ton

Paddy rice prices in Egypt have decreased by 1,000 Egyptian pounds per ton at the start of the week. This decline is driven by an increased supply as the first quantities of the new harvest enter the market, while domestic demand remains relatively stable.

Fine-grain paddy rice prices dropped to 13,500 EGP per ton from 14,500 EGP the previous week. Wide-grain paddy rice fell to 15,500 EGP from 16,000 EGP. Prices for rice by-products, such as fine and coarse broken rice, have remained stable.

Export activity remains limited, as current local price levels and competition from Asian and American products affect the ability of companies to expand exports. According to US Department of Agriculture data, Egypt's paddy rice production for the 2025/2026 marketing season is estimated at approximately 5.65 million tons, equivalent to 3.9 million tons of white rice, against a consumption rate of nearly 4 million tons.
