Egypt Petroleum Minister targets mineral value addition and gas production stability

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, is spearheading initiatives to maximize the economic value of the nation's mineral resources. A primary focus is the development of industrial complexes to process phosphate into high-value products, such as phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers, through partnerships with national and international investors. Key projects include the Abu Tartur phosphoric acid project in New Valley and an integrated phosphate complex by the Elsewedy Group.

In the energy sector, Minister Badawi reported that increased exploration and drilling activities have helped mitigate the natural decline in domestic gas production that began in 2021. He noted that the settlement of outstanding debts to international investment partners, achieved by June, has restored confidence in the Egyptian market. This stability is expected to support increased production levels and reduce the national import bill through enhanced field development and exploration programs aimed at 2030 targets.
