Egypt poultry and egg prices fluctuate amid producer losses
Poultry and egg prices in Egypt showed signs of fluctuation and downward trends on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. White poultry farm prices were reported between 58 and 59 EGP per kilogram, reaching consumer prices of approximately 68 to 72 EGP.
Sasso poultry prices at the farm level were noted around 82 to 86 EGP, while consumer prices ranged from 95 to 97 EGP. Local poultry (Baladi) reached 105 EGP at the farm and 120 EGP for consumers. Chicken fillet (pane) prices varied between 170 and 230 EGP depending on the market and preparation.
Egg prices also saw shifts, with red egg cartons priced at approximately 85 EGP wholesale and 110 EGP for consumers. White egg cartons were reported at 85 EGP wholesale and 105 EGP for consumers.
Dr. Tharwat El-Ziny, Vice President of the Poultry Producers Federation, warned that the industry is facing a critical period. He noted that production costs, ranging from 70 to 75 EGP per kilogram, significantly exceed farm selling prices of 55 to 60 EGP. This gap has resulted in continuous losses for producers for several months, potentially threatening the stability of the entire production chain.
