Egypt poultry and egg prices see fluctuations amid school season

Poultry and egg prices in Egypt have shown recent fluctuations. White poultry prices at farms have risen to approximately 60 EGP per kilo, reaching 72 EGP for consumers, while Sasso poultry and Baladi chicken prices remain higher. Notably, chicken fillet prices have seen a decrease, ranging between 160 and 190 EGP in some locations.

Egg prices have experienced a downward trend in several areas. Red egg cartons are priced around 85 EGP wholesale and 110 EGP retail, while white egg cartons are approximately 85 EGP wholesale and 105 EGP retail. Dr. Tharwat El-Ziny, Vice President of the Poultry Producers Federation, noted that egg prices might see a slight upward movement soon due to increased demand as the new school year approaches.

Addressing food safety concerns, Dr. El-Ziny dismissed social media rumors regarding Salmonella contamination in local eggs, stating that local production is subject to a comprehensive regulatory system. He also confirmed that Egypt maintains self-sufficiency in table egg production, with a surplus of approximately 25%, meaning no imports are required.
