Egypt prepares for 2026 Prophet's Birthday public holiday

The Prophet's Birthday (Mawlid al-Nabi) is expected to fall on August 25 or 26, 2026, according to astronomical calculations and religious observations. This occasion serves as a paid public holiday for both government and private sector employees in Egypt.

There is ongoing anticipation regarding whether the Egyptian Cabinet will issue a decision to postpone the holiday to Thursday. Such a move would allow workers to enjoy a continuous three-day weekend including the standard weekly break. Following this holiday, the only remaining official public holiday for the year 2026 is Armed Forces Day on October 6.
