Egypt prepares sports facilities for Cairo 2026 African University Games

Egypt is intensifying preparations to host the 12th African University Games, titled ‘Cairo 2026’, scheduled to take place from September 8 to 16, 2026. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is working alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the African University Sports Federation to ensure sports facilities and organizational environments are ready for the continental event.

Various institutions have been designated to host specific competitions. Ain Shams University will host team sports, swimming, racket sports, fencing, chess, modern pentathlon, and related Paralympic sports. 6th of October University is set to host athletics, Paralympic sports, karate, taekwondo, and wrestling, with judo subject to final technical confirmation. Additionally, the American University in Cairo, the Maadi Olympic Center, and the New Capital Club will host various competitions according to the approved distribution plan.

Dr. Abdelaziz Qansoua, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that these preparations reflect Egypt’s commitment to hosting a tournament worthy of its status and pivotal role in Africa. He noted that the games serve as an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of Egyptian universities and sports institutions while fostering communication among African university youth.
