Egypt prepares for Cairo 2026 African University Games

Egypt is intensifying preparations for the 12th African University Games, scheduled to take place in Cairo from September 8 to 16, 2026. Under the theme ‘One Torch, One Continent’, the event is expected to host 2,082 participants from 17 African countries, representing 81 universities and institutions.

Recent developments include a torch relay ceremony hosted by the British University in Egypt, featuring Olympic karate gold medalist Feryal Abdelaziz. Additionally, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansoua, has held high-level meetings with the President of the African University Sports Federation, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, and the head of the National Media Authority to coordinate logistics and media coverage.

The games will feature 18 main sports, including 4 team sports, 14 individual sports, 4 Paralympic sports, and 3 exhibition sports. The organizing committees aim to utilize national media resources to showcase the event to the African continent, emphasizing the intersection of sports, education, and cultural exchange.
