Egypt prioritizes Libyan sovereignty and regional stability

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has outlined Egypt's strategic priorities regarding regional stability during recent diplomatic engagements and the 166th ordinary session of the Arab League Ministerial Council.

Regarding Libya, Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt prioritizes the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He advocated for a purely Libyan political process and noted that holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections is essential to ending national division.

Addressing broader regional tensions, the Foreign Minister condemned Iranian attacks against Arab nations, expressing solidarity with the GCC, Jordan, and Iraq. He stressed the importance of returning to diplomatic paths to avoid wider conflict and urged for a sustainable agreement following previous understandings between the U.S. and Iran.

On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital. He rejected settlement expansion, displacement, and annexation, calling for an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.

Furthermore, Abdelatty addressed maritime security, asserting that the security of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of its coastal states. He also reiterated Egypt's support for the sovereignty of Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya, emphasizing the need to protect national institutions from foreign intervention.
