Egypt promotes infrastructure financing and investment at IMF/World Bank meetings

On the sidelines of the 81st Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Bangkok, Egyptian officials held several high-level meetings to discuss economic cooperation and infrastructure financing.

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Ahmed Rostom, presented the Infrastructure Finance Guarantee Mechanism (IFGF) to international representatives and regional partners. The mechanism is designed to provide financial guarantees for national priority projects to stimulate private sector participation. Key focus areas include seawater desalination, wastewater recycling, green transport, renewable energy, and industrial infrastructure.

During the meetings, Minister Rostom also met with Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, to discuss exchanging economic expertise and development priorities. Additionally, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty met with Qatari Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari to explore ways to increase Qatari investments in Egypt, specifically within the energy, logistics, and infrastructure sectors, while utilizing international finance tools for climate and green projects.
