Egypt proposes Family Support Solidarity Fund law

The Egyptian government has referred a draft law to the House of Representatives to establish the Egyptian Family Support Solidarity Fund. The fund aims to promote social solidarity and assist families in managing life's burdens through various collected fees.

Proposed contributions include 1,000 Egyptian pounds for marriage, divorce, or reconciliation events, and 5,000 pounds if a husband is already married. Educational contributions include a 2% fee on annual tuition for students in public, private, and international universities, with a minimum of 100 pounds and a maximum of 5,000 pounds. Additionally, fees will be collected on social club memberships, annual renewals, and a 10% charge on the rental of venues in hotels and clubs used for celebrations.

The draft law also outlines strict criminal penalties to protect fund assets. Individuals obtaining funds through fraud or false evidence face a minimum of six months in prison and fines between 20,000 and 50,000 Egyptian pounds. Employers who fail to provide required income statements may face fines up to 20,000 pounds. The law also establishes the liability of corporate management for violations committed through negligence or knowledge.
