Egypt pushes forward transport projects, launching new Sinai railway service

The Egyptian National Railways began operating four daily trips on the upgraded Qantara East–Bir al‑Abd line in North Sinai, serving eight stations and supporting the 500‑km Sinai development railway project.

President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi met with Transport Minister Mustafa Madbouly and other officials, urging the rapid completion of major transport initiatives. Projects discussed included the expansion of ports at Suez, Damietta, Alexandria and El‑Sokhna, the trial operation of the first high‑speed electric rail segment (Al‑Sokhna – Al‑Alamein – Marsa Matruh) slated for September 2026, the east and west Nile monorail lines, and the deployment of a rapid‑bus transit (BRT) system. The government emphasized that these projects aim to boost trade, improve connectivity, and support Egypt’s role as a regional logistics hub.
