Egypt readies national football team and league schedule ahead of AFCON qualifiers
The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, represented by spokesperson Mohamed Shazly, announced a series of coordination meetings to secure a smooth start to the new domestic football season and to support the national team’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Minister Gouhar Nabil met with senior officials, including Hany Abu Rida of the Egyptian Football Association and Ahmed Diab, head of the Professional Clubs Association, to align league calendars, avoid fixture congestion, and ensure player rest ahead of the national team’s September training camp.
A parallel talent‑identification programme was unveiled, deploying a network of scouts to youth centres and villages across Egypt with private‑sector backing. The initiative aims to discover and develop emerging football talent to feed clubs and national squads, reinforcing the country’s recent successes on the international stage.
