Egypt receives $100 million investment from Chinese automakers OMODA and JAECOO

Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Investments signed a strategic partnership with OMODA and JAECOO, two brands of China’s Chery Group, to build automotive manufacturing capacity in Egypt. The agreement includes a US$100 million (EGP 5 billion) investment to develop production infrastructure, expand assembly capacity and construct new facilities that meet Chery’s global standards, supporting Egypt’s goal to become a regional hub for vehicle production and export.

In parallel, OMODA and JAECOO obtained the ISO/PAS 8800 and ISO/IEC 42001 certifications, marking the first dual certification for AI safety on board vehicles among Chinese brands. The standards assess technical safety throughout the AI development cycle and the overall governance of AI systems, reflecting tightening regulations, especially in the European Union. The certifications signal the companies’ readiness to meet emerging market requirements for AI‑enabled automotive technologies.
