Egypt reorganizes Ministry of Supply and expands vaccine production

The Egyptian government has approved a restructuring of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. The reorganization aims to ensure the steady flow of goods and services, provide regular market data, and develop policies to secure essential commodities. The ministry will focus on identifying gaps between local production and consumption, enhancing market oversight to protect consumers from fraud, and managing the distribution of goods across governorates. The Minister of Supply will oversee several entities, including the General Authority for Supply Commodities and the Internal Trade Development Authority.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a cooperation agreement between Egypt and the European Investment Bank to support VACSERA, the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines. The agreement includes a 750,000 euro technical assistance grant to support the development of a multi-vaccine production plant and increase production capacity. This initiative is part of a seven-stage project designed to achieve local self-sufficiency, meet African market demands, and eventually secure World Health Organization prequalification for regional export.
