Egypt reports 5.1% economic growth for 2025/2026 fiscal year
The Egyptian Ministry of Finance reported that the national economy has demonstrated resilience and the ability to absorb shocks despite regional instability. This announcement follows Fitch Ratings' decision to maintain Egypt's rating at ‘B’ with a stable outlook.
For the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the economy achieved a growth rate of 5.1%, driven by expansions in manufacturing, telecommunications, and information technology. The primary surplus reached 4.9% of GDP, while the total budget deficit decreased to 5.8%.
Tax revenues rose by 27% through the implementation of tax facilitation packages rather than new burdens. The Ministry also noted that private sector investments grew by approximately 65%. While high debt service costs remain a significant challenge due to interest rates, the government is pursuing a medium-term debt management strategy to extend maturities and diversify investor bases to ensure sustainable debt reduction.
