Egypt reports over 4,800 animals slaughtered in government abattoirs during Eid al‑Adha

The Veterinary Directorate of Egypt’s Red Sea governorate announced that 564 locally‑bred animals and 2,941 imported heads were slaughtered at five ministry‑run and three private abattoirs during the four days of Eid al‑Adha. The operations were carried out free of charge under veterinary supervision to protect public health, with each facility staffed by two veterinarians and administrative personnel.

In Aswan, the Veterinary Directorate reported a total of 1,281 sacrifices processed in government slaughterhouses, including 729 private offerings and 552 from charities such as the Egyptian Food Bank, Misr El‑Kheir, and the Orman Foundation. The daily throughput reached 305, 349, 512 and 115 animals respectively over the four‑day period. Both governorates highlighted strict health‑safety checks before and after slaughter to ensure meat quality and environmental protection.
