Egyptian pound approaches 50 per US dollar as banks post rates
On Thursday 9 July 2026 the US dollar traded near the 50 EGP mark in Egypt’s banking sector. The Central Bank’s official rate was 49.57 EGP for buying and 49.71 EGP for selling, while most commercial banks quoted similar levels. QNB offered the highest buying price at 49.63 EGP and Bank Cairo gave the lowest selling price at 48.92 EGP.
Earlier in the week the dollar was quoted at 48.74 EGP (buy) and 48.88 EGP (sell). The convergence toward 50 EGP reflects modest fluctuations across banks such as NBE, Bank Egypt, CIB, and others, each posting rates around 49.55‑49.67 EGP.
Analysts advised customers to monitor real‑time bank screens before transacting to secure the most favorable rate.
