Egypt resumes Sinai railway operations and announces metro expansion
Egypt has officially commenced operations on the El Qantara East - Bir al-Abd railway line, marking the return of train services to the Sinai Peninsula after decades. The line currently operates four daily trips across eight main stations, including El Qantara, Baluza, El Salam, and Bir al-Abd. This project is part of a larger strategic initiative to connect Sinai to the Nile Valley, aiming to stimulate trade, investment, and sustainable development in North Sinai.
In separate infrastructure developments, the National Authority for Tunnels announced that the first phase of the Haram Metro project is scheduled to open by the end of 2027. This phase will span from Hadayek al-Ashgar to al-Masaha station, featuring 12 key stations designed to serve high-density areas and tourist landmarks in the Giza Governorate.
Additionally, the Egyptian National Railways reported that train operations are stabilizing as temperatures decline, though some delays persist on specific routes. Authorities have issued strict directives to staff regarding technical inspections and adherence to speed limits to ensure passenger safety and operational regularity.
