Egypt Secures Extended Term on African Agricultural Research Forum Board
Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that Egypt will continue its representation on the board of the Forum for African Agricultural Research (FARA) until 2029. The renewal was confirmed during the board meeting and general assembly held on the sidelines of the 9th African Agricultural Science Week in Abuja, Nigeria, and reflects sustained African confidence in Egypt's leadership in agricultural research.
Deputy head of the Center for Agricultural Research, Dr. Maher Al‑Maghrabi, said the extension will help translate research outputs into practical applications that boost productivity, improve farmers' incomes, and enhance food security across the continent. He highlighted Egypt's work on smart farming, modern irrigation, high‑yield seed varieties, post‑harvest storage, digital transformation, and partnerships with universities, the private sector and farmers. The announcement also referenced Egypt's long‑standing cooperation with African nations, including joint Egyptian‑African farms launched in 1998 and national programmes such as the "Zera" initiative, the "Hayat Karima" project and school nutrition schemes under the "One Health" concept.
