Egypt targets 45% renewable energy share by 2028

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat in New Alamein to review Egypt’s national strategy for renewable energy expansion. The strategy aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 45% of total power generation by 2028.

Minister Esmat reported that total investments in the electricity and renewable energy sector have reached approximately 5 trillion Egyptian pounds since 2014. The discussions emphasized the importance of expanding electrical energy storage technologies, specifically battery systems, to ensure national grid stability.

President el-Sisi stressed the necessity of supporting partnerships that utilize locally manufactured components, particularly energy storage batteries, to promote industrial localization. He also directed efforts toward developing local manufacturing in sectors including black sands, fertilizers, and rare earth elements to bolster energy security and the green transition.
