Egypt targets 5.4% economic growth for 2026/2027 fiscal year

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rostom, announced that the national economy achieved a growth rate of 5.1% during the previous fiscal year. This growth occurred despite regional and global geopolitical tensions and was characterized by a significant increase in private sector participation, which reached 57.7% of total investments.

For the 2026/2027 fiscal year, the government has set an economic growth target of 5.4%, supported by total investments of 3.7 trillion Egyptian pounds. The private sector is expected to account for approximately 59% of these investments. The plan emphasizes expanding manufacturing industries and non-oil sectors.

Additionally, the Ministry is preparing a ‘National Economic Transformation Program’ for 2027–2030. This program aims to enhance economic resilience, improve job creation, and optimize investment distribution across governorates. The strategy includes structural reforms, legislative developments to protect investor rights, and increased coordination between the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Planning to control inflation and reduce public debt.
