Egypt textile sector targets export growth through technology and investment
Egypt is undergoing a significant transformation in its textile and spinning sector, driven by efforts to modernize production lines and localize machinery manufacturing. During the ‘Egypt Stitch & Tex 2026’ exhibition, industry officials emphasized that technological upgrades are essential to improve product quality, reduce energy consumption, and meet international market standards to boost exports.
Government and industry leaders are focusing on creating an integrated value chain that connects agriculture to final manufacturing. Egyptian lawmakers have proposed strategies to maximize the economic returns of Egyptian cotton by transitioning from exporting raw materials to producing finished, high-value goods like garments. This approach aims to support local farmers while providing factories with a stable supply of high-quality raw materials.
International interest in the Egyptian market is growing, with Turkish Ambassador Mautlu Şen noting that ten Turkish companies are currently exploring entry into the Egyptian textile and ready-made garment sectors. This influx of foreign investment, alongside Chinese interest, is expected to facilitate technology transfer and help position Egypt as a regional hub for textile manufacturing and exports.
