Egypt to double basic landline internet capacity to 100GB
The Egyptian government has directed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to double the capacity of the basic landline internet package from 50GB to 100GB per month.
The monthly subscription price will remain unchanged at 150 EGP before tax, or 171 EGP including value-added tax. This decision follows recommendations from the Egypt 2026 Forum presented by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The move aims to reduce costs for home internet users and support digital transformation by facilitating access to educational, health, and government digital services.
Implementation requires technical updates to the accounting systems of internet service providers. NTRA spokesperson Mohamed Ibrahim stated that discussions regarding executive procedures with companies are scheduled to begin on October 25, 2026. While the data capacity is doubling, the connection speed will remain dependent on the user's specific plan and existing infrastructure.
