Egypt to host 12th African University Games in Cairo 2026
Egypt is preparing to host the 12th African University Games, titled ‘Cairo 2026’, scheduled to take place from September 8 to 16, 2026. The event will feature participation from various African universities and educational institutions.
The competition program includes 25 different sports and contests. This comprises 18 main sports, such as football (men and women), volleyball, basketball, padel, squash, swimming, athletics, and martial arts like karate and judo. Additionally, the games will introduce three exhibition sports for the first time: sport sailing, darts, and e-sports. The program also includes four paralympic disciplines: paralympic athletics, badminton, table tennis, and swimming.
Officials, including Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, noted that the diverse program aims to discover talent and enhance communication among African university youth. The organizing committee is currently working on technical and organizational preparations to meet international standards.
