Egypt to launch advanced marine seismic survey in Eastern Mediterranean
Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has announced the upcoming launch of the first phase of an advanced marine seismic survey project in the Eastern Mediterranean. Scheduled to begin within the next two weeks, the initial stage will cover approximately 18,000 square kilometers using Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology.
The project is being implemented by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) in collaboration with a consortium consisting of SLB and Viridian. This initiative is part of a broader integrated program aimed at covering a total area of 95,000 square kilometers to evaluate undiscovered hydrocarbon resources.
The use of OBN technology is intended to provide high-resolution geological imaging of subsea structures, reducing technical risks and improving the accuracy of identifying promising drilling sites. By providing more precise geological data, the ministry aims to attract new international investments and accelerate exploration and production decisions in Egypt's waters.
