Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan condemn Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia
Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia issued a joint statement in New York condemning Houthi militia attacks against Saudi Arabia. Following a consultative meeting of foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, the four nations affirmed their support for Saudi sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the kingdom's inherent right to self-defense.
The ministers expressed concern over escalating regional hostilities and emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety and freedom of maritime navigation. They called for a return to diplomacy and adherence to the Islamabad Memorandum signed between the United States and Iran in June 2026 to reduce regional tensions.
In a separate context, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the Ansar Allah group, warned Turkey and Pakistan against providing support to Saudi Arabia for political or material gains. Analysts suggest that while direct military intervention from Ankara or Islamabad remains unlikely, the regional security situation remains volatile due to the ongoing conflict in Yemen and its implications for broader Middle Eastern stability.
