Banque du Caire to launch IPO for 30% stake on Egyptian Exchange
Banque du Caire has announced plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) on the Egyptian Exchange, selling 30% of its capital. The offering involves the sale of approximately 4.575 billion shares by the state-owned lender Banque Misr. The process is expected to include a private placement for qualified institutional investors—including those in the United States under Rule 144A—and a public offering for retail investors in Egypt. Pending regulatory approvals, subscription is anticipated in late October, with trading potentially beginning in November 2026.
This long-awaited listing follows years of delays. The bank's fair value was recently updated to reflect recent financial statements, with sources estimating the value at EGP 75 billion (USD 1.43 billion). CI Capital and EFG Hermes will serve as managers and coordinators for the offering, with Baker McKenzie and Helmy, Hamza & Partners providing legal counsel.
Separately, the Central Bank of Egypt reported that the total financial position of banks operating in the domestic market grew to EGP 27.661 trillion in June 2026, up from EGP 26.887 trillion in March. The report also noted a decline in the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio to 1.8% during the same period.
