Egyptian banks launch data‑update initiative for diaspora

The Central Bank of Egypt, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has rolled out the "Your Data in Egypt" programme to simplify banking data updates for Egyptians living abroad. The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Bank Misr have each signed cooperation protocols to participate. NBE CEO Mohamed Al‑Tarabi said the scheme follows the central bank’s directive to ease banking services for expatriates, allowing customers to update their records at Egyptian embassies and consulates using a valid national ID or passport. Bank Misr CEO Hisham Akasha highlighted that the initiative will initially cover 67 countries, including the United States, United Arab Emirates, Germany and Saudi Arabia, and will enable seamless access to online banking, transfers and investment products.

The programme aims to strengthen financial inclusion for the Egyptian diaspora, support the country’s digital transformation agenda and maintain continuous service delivery regardless of the customers’ location.
